The idea behind TravelAid is to have a reliable repository of information about areas which have suffered catastrophic events and that can be helped by respectful tourism.
While we do our best to try and provide the most updated information, we’ve found that in the kind of scenarios where there is a natural catastrophe, is common to have information that might not be totally accurate, in that sense we identify the information in the following way: 1 (most reliable) Information provided by the government or known reliable sources (Red Cross, UNO, etc.). 2 (less reliable) News outlets on the ground, NGO, first hand sources, 3 (not reliable) based in rumours, social media posts, second hand information. We do our best to avoid this last sources of information unless they provide some additional evidence.
All the same, we strongly suggest to take the information provided in here as an opinion and before travelling anywhere, find out from other independent sources about the ongoing situation, we are not responsible for your traveling decisions or safety in general, our recommendation is that in case of any doubt, you should always pick the safest option.
